The fact that learners know specifically why they are learning a language

  • The fact that learners know specifically why they are learning a language
  • is a great advantage on both sides of the process. The group of ESP learners is going to achieve the same goal in the field of studying branch, so learners motivation, in a form of the same aim, enables teacher to meet learners needs and expectations easier. Learner and the way of learning are considered to be the main factors in the whole process.
  • The original flowering of the ESP movement resulted from general developments in the world economy in the 1950s and 1960s: the growth of science and technology, the increased use of English as the international language of science, technology and business, the in­creased economic power of certain oil-rich countries and the increased numbers of international students studying in the UK, USA and Australia. The idea of language for specific purposes, however, has been around for a long time.
