 Drug Addiction among sentenced persons serving at 

penitentiaries

Summary  

 

Existence of drug addiction as a social and legal, medical 

and psychological and political and economical problem, its 

turning into a dangerous evil inflicting great damage on the 

spiritual and moral values of society is stressed and a number of 

measures taken in the direction of combating drug addiction in the 

country are shown in the workbook. Pressing questions on the 

creation of complicated psychological sphere and unfavourable 

drug abuse condition in penitentiaries by the increase of the

number of sentenced drug addicts imprisoned for crimes they 

committed, its negative influence on general reformatory process, 

the personality of a drug addict and the social and psychological 

natures characterizing him and other cases are analyzed. The issue 

of complete isolation of sentenced sick drug addicts depending 

psychologically and physiologically on drugs from other sentenced 

persons and their treatment and rehabilitation is investigated from 

the scientific standpoint, as well.  

Several questions devoted to the problems of combating 

drug addiction and the prevention of drug addiction in the 

researches of F.Y. Samandarov, B.M.Asadov, F.M. Javadov, Y.S. 

Abdullayev, B.S. Zahidov, B.M.Levin, V.V.Borinevich, I.V. 

Strelchuk, V.N. Samsunov, S. Gurski and other authors have been 

touched in the workbook.  

The major results of the conducted research have been 

shown in the workbook and the organization of the establishment 

of specially qualified treatment and rehabilitation institutions for 

the sentenced drug addicts for increasing the efficiency of the 

execution of penalties and reformation in penitentiaries in the
