August 2010
The most recent newborn of the ATLS–Europe family
arrived in July at the Université Claude Bernard in Lyon.
The newborn is a healthy and robust infant and has all
the characteristics of a strong and long-lived Gaulois.
Born among its European brothers and sisters, “le petit
Gaulois” had in attendance its stepfather from across
the ocean, “le Canadien anglophile,” John kortbeek.
“Le Baptême” soon followed, with the christening
of eight new instructors who will be joining
the growing ATLS international family.
All the best wishes and congratulations to “les papas et la
mama”: Eric Voiglio, Frèderic Lodier, and Pascale Lavielle.
For a long time, France was considered the final
objective for the diffusion and implementation of
ATLS around the world. It had its own emergency
procedures and school of thought, backed by the authority of a strong
and respected medical community, which at times were totally opposite
to what the rest of the world practiced. Therefore, it is a significant
scientific achievement for ATLS to start in France. True, ATLS must
still win over a large number of French doctors and a whole medical
school of thought, but the scientific proof is here to back it up.
The future objectives now are called: China and Russia.
Once again, CONGRATULATIONS, FRANCE!
