In order to study the renewal of beech forests of the Greater Caucasus north-eastern
slopes, depending on the altitude and the steepness of the slopes were laid 8 plots. The
characteristic indicators of plot stands were: completeness - 0,5-0,7; the height of the terrain -
830-1855 m asl; steepness -14-340; as a part of a beech varied in the range of 5-10 units; as
an impurity involved hornbeam, maple, ash and others. The studies found that with increasing
altitude to the upper boundary of beech belt the total number of undergrowth reduces 2.4
times, but the large beech undergrowth in composition reduces to 50%. With the increasing
steepness of the slopes from flat to steep decreases the total amount of undergrowth reduces
4 times and the share of large beech undergrowth in composition is about 40%.
