establishment media n. a network or group that operates as an informal centre of power and influence in society. The term has particular currency in Britain where it is taken to include those who occupy key positions in the major political parties, in banking, finance, industry and the media, as well as in the top echelons of the civil service, non-governmental organizations (NGO)s, and the ancient universities. A ‘revolving door’ is often said to operate between these institutions so that it is not uncommon for establishment figures to move between influential positions in different institutions – between the civil service and the universities, for instance, or between politics and commerce. mmo

esthetic code media n. sets of conventions or rules within the expressive arts that govern composition. They may be implicit or explicit and honored as much in the breach as in the observance. Indeed, great works of art depend as much on innovation and rule-breaking as they do on following established conventions. mmo
