Ajami Nakhchivani is a Muslim medieval architect. Founder of the Nakhichevan architectural school. He lived and worked in Nakhichevan. Among his creations: the tomb monument of Yusif ibn-Kuseir in 1162, Momine Xatun in 1186. Contemporaries called Ajami "sheikh-ul-muhandis" - "head of engineers." It is to him that the words of the inscription on the Momine-Khatun mausoleum are attributed:
We will leave - the world will remain, we will die - it will remain a memory.
One of the stations of the Baku Metro, Memar Ajami, is also named after him.
In 1976, in connection with the 850th anniversary of Ajami Nakhchivani, a monument to the architect was erected in the city of Nakhichevan. The sculptor is the Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Kamal Alekperov. The monument to the architect is also installed on the pediment of the loggia of the facade of the Azerbaijan National Library in Baku.
The mausoleum of Yusuf son of Kuseyir or Atababa mausoleum is a medieval mausoleum built in 1161-1162 in the city of Nakhichevan.
In its upper part there is a wide frieze with a Kufic inscription from the Koran. The western face of the mausoleum is somewhat different. Its upper part is filled with a geometric pattern, under which there is a building inscription. It mentions the name of the buried person and the time when the tomb was built. The interior of the tomb is divided into a spacious upper chamber and a crypt. The name of Ajami Nakhchivani is inscribed at the top of the first face, to the left of the entrance.
The Mausoleum of Momine-Khatun is a mausoleum, also known as the Atabek Dome, in the city of Nakhichevan. It was built in 1186. The ten-sided mausoleum reached a height of 34 meters. Today its height is only 25 meters (without the tent, which has not been preserved). The mausoleum, built and named after the mother of one of the local rulers of Azerbaijan, Atabek Jahan Pahlavan from the Ildegezid dynasty, is masterfully decorated with complex geometric ornaments and inscriptions from the Koran.
And that’s all .
I hope you enjoyed the information.
And I really hope that Nakhchivani is more than a station for you.
Thank you for your attention!
