A • Elicit from the students the things they consider
when choosing a holiday. Build up a list of
categories on the left-hand side of the board,
if necessary providing definitions (given in
brackets), e.g.
• all-inclusive (meals and drinks are paid for) • self-catering (you cook your own meals) • hotel • your own apartment/house/place • good nightlife and entertainment • quiet and peaceful • hot and sunny • not too hot/cold • swimming pool • active holiday • near the beach • abroad (in a different country to your own) • at home • cheap • good value for money • Elicit or point out that considering categories like
these helps you to reflect on what is important
for you so that you make a better decision.
B • On the right-hand side of the board, write the
following different kinds of holiday:
A: Two weeks in an all-inclusive hotel at a lively beach resort in Dubai in August. B: A weekend skiing in Switzerland in a quiet self-catering chalet in December. C: A week’s walking holiday, camping in a tent, in your own country in autumn.
