IFRC AnnualReport 2022 Final-web

Lesotho Red Cross
, together with
IFRC, planted 900 fruit trees supported by the
Australian Red Cross
. In addition, the school
feeding project in Lesotho distributed another
1,500 trees to schools and communities in the
Botha-Bothe district. About 1200 learners and
3,000 community people were reached through
this initiative.
Jamaica

Grenada
and
 Trinidad
and Tobago National Societies
also intro-
duced the programme of tree planting and care
to maximize the green cover that can support
reducing the impacts caused by land and air pol-
lution. During Red Cross Day, 4,000 trees were
planted in the Dodoma region.
National Societies and the IFRC are putting
into practice solutions to save energy at work.
As heat waves are affecting populations in all
continents, in Greece, the IFRC, the Hellenic Red
Cross and other partners have been exploring
how to leverage impact-based forecasting sys-
tems. They are also exploring best practices on
extreme heat response.

SPOTLIGHT
THE GLOBAL CLIMATE
RESILIENCE PLATFORM
The unprecedented threat of the climate crisis
prompted the IFRC to seek a new approach to
financing the climate-smart risk reduction and
adaptation projects that are needed most, where
they are needed most, and at the scale that will
be required to protect communities at risk.
The new approach is called the Global Climate
Resilience Platform, and it was devised by
the IFRC and officially launched at COP27 in
November 2022.
This innovative five-year 1 billion Swiss franc
mechanism will fund the scaling-up of local and
community-based climate action in many of
the 100 countries most vulnerable to climate
risks. Its goal is to reduce the current and future
humanitarian impacts of climate change and
support people to adapt in the face of it.
The platform links different sources of funding
across development, humanitarian, climate and
private sectors to take locally led climate action
to scale. It will channel funding to local communi-
ties via National Societies using existing financial
mechanisms, ensuring that resources go to
where they will have the greatest impact.
The work will span four pillars:
