Stylistics, its methodological basis.
Theme 2. The notion of stylistics
Many definitions of Stylistics as a science. Types of stylistics. Notion of Style
and Stylistics. The Place of Stylistics among other Language-Studying Sciences
and its Peculiarities. Theory of Information, Literature, Logic, Psychology,
Psycholinguistics, Culturology, Sociology, Statistics.
Theme 3. Concept of stylistics
The study and interpretation of texts of all types and/or spoken language. Style as
Choice. Narrative stylistics. The study of varieties of language. Meaning of
Stylistics and its approaches.
Theme 4. Methods and principles of stylistics
Looking through of Theory, Principles, Methods, and the Objectives of Stylistics.
Comparative, quantitative and qualitative methods. The method of stylistic
experiment.
Theme 5. The various approaches to the study of stylistics
Study of the Linguistic Approach to Stylistics, including linguistic analysis of

literary language. The tenets of literary stylistics. Explore differences between
Linguistic Approach and Literary Approach to Stylistics
Theme 6. Comparative stylistics
Language vs speech acts. Study of the objective of comparative stylistics and its
examples. The scope and limits of comparative stylistics. Comparative Study of
Functional Styles. The branch dealing with the comparison of texts in translation.
Theme 7. The Nationwide English language and its varieties
Looking through of American English, including the other major varieties such as
Canadian English, Australian English, New Zealand English and Indian English.
