Both incidents of armed conflict and reports of antiquities looting in these data are distributed
primarily along the Nile, where the majority of Egypt’s population resides. Figure 3 shows the
geographic distribution of both armed conflict incidents and antiquities looting incidents from 1997–
2014. Reports of antiquities looting appear to be concentrated among a limited number of sites with
multiple reports over time.
