not when we buy, not when we take. It’s actually when we give that we receive
the
raḥmah
of Allah.
May Allah (
ʿazza wa-jall
) make us a people that give, especially to the close
relatives, to those around us that are stuck in difficult situations, those who are
stuck in debt. There are some students that are stuck in debt. They have college
loans that they are paying but they can’t get out of. There are people in difficult
situations like that. May Allah (
ʿazza wa-jall
) give us the ability to help people
that are in those kinds of situations. May Allah (
ʿazza wa-jall
) make us of those
who do not become from the
mubadhdhirīn
, who are not reckless spenders. May
Allah (
ʿazza wa-jall
) put
barakah
and goodness and
faḍl
in all of our
rizq
, all of
the provision that He provides us. May He make all
of our earnings halal and
pure, and may He make it a means by which, not only do we consume halal, but
we earn His
raḥmah
and His forgiveness by becoming people of
ṣadaqah
.

in this brief reminder, I would like to share with you something

ʿazza wa-jall
) addresses in His
book that was not just a problem for ancient Arabs in the desert, but is actually a
problem across many societies and it persists even today. The unfortunate reality
is that the evil that is being addressed in the
āyāt
of
Sūrat al-Naḥl
—the sixteenth
surah—the evil that’s being talked about has somehow survived even among
Muslims. Even though Allah (
ʿazza wa-jall
) addressed this disease as a disease
that the people of
shirk
used to have, for some reason or another,

has
been successful in maintaining this virus across the generations in many lands, in
many families, in many cultures among the Muslims.
But the way I want to discuss this,
