INNOVATIONS IN THE DESIGN OF CARDBOARD FURNITURE

Summary:
This article discusses innovative ideas in cardboard furniture. Advantages and 
disadvantages of cardboard furniture. Various types of cardboard furniture. Examples of various 
types of structural systems in cardboard furniture are given.

Innovation plays a fundamental role in the development of ideas and the production of new 
products. For example, cardboard furniture is a revolution that will dispel more than one doubt 
about it and its usefulness. 
Recycled cardboard can be used to design and make any furniture, because even if you think 
otherwise, it is a fairly durable material. 
Cardboard is a material consisting of several layers of paper superimposed on each other. 
This gives it greater strength than ordinary paper. The appearance of the cardboard is limited by the 
top layer, which we can see with the naked eye. Their finish can be different, they can be both 
printed and painted. 
Cardboard was invented in France in 1751 and is attributed to a student of Rene-Antoine 
Ferchot de Reaumur, who developed it for very specific applications, such as plates, binding cases 
and playing cards. 
Cardboard is used mainly in the packaging and publishing industries, as well as in all 
cardboard industries where its properties of sound insulation, mechanical and electrical insulation 
are used. Cardboard is also used as the main material for the manufacture of furniture. 
Thanks to the characteristics of cardboard, you can make quite interesting furniture designs. 
They not only fulfill their function of storing items, but also serve as a stylish innovative home 
decoration. Obviously, cardboard furniture should be kept as far away from humidity and direct 
contact with water as possible. As expected, there is no cardboard kitchen furniture, where water is 
usually constantly present. 
The downside of this material may be that it serves less than wood or aluminum. But, of 
course, it was still to be expected that it was cardboard. Usually, the frequency with which we have 
to replace furniture is greater than that of ordinary wooden or aluminum furniture. However, it is 
still cheaper, does not harm the environment and does not pollute anything. We can say that, 
estimating the costs of all levels, cardboard furniture is much cheaper. 
The main advantages of cardboard furniture: 
• relatively economical in production for a wide range of mechanical and aesthetic properties, 
regardless of size; 
• completely eco-friendly, does not pollute the environment and does not spoil natural resources; 
• safety for people and animals. The composition of the cardboard does not include harmful 
chemicals; 
• quite resistant; 
• innovative and excellent design 
• support for various types of assembly (bonding, gluing, tabs); 
• easy and compact to store in the apartmen 
• lightness and mobility. Cardboard furniture can be moved even by a child; 
• ability to update home decor;
