Mâverâünnehir faqihs made great contributions in the develop-
ment of the doctrine of Hanafi fiqh and in becoming it the largest and
most widespread school in the Islamic World.
As a matter of fact, the scholars who grew up in Māvarāʾ al-Nahr in
the Ascension period, which included the time of Sultan Alparslan and
Melikshah, which was the brightest period of the Seljuks in terms of sci-
ence and culture as well as politically, have mentioned their names for
centuries with their works, especially in their own time.
Fiqh, one of the sciences that developed in Transoxiana, created
basins of Islamic laws in places such as Bukhara, Samarkand, Farghana,
Shāsh (Tashkent) and Nasaf, and these basins were crowned with the
jurists such as Suğdī, Sarakhsī, Pazdawī, Hâherzâde and Khujandī, and
their works which are the basis, and/or from which it has been inspired
for next centuries.
