Sport in Our Life
People all over the world are fond of sports and games.
Sport makes people healthy, keeps them fit, more organized
and better disciplined. It unites people of different classes
and nationalities. Many people do sports on their personal
initiative. They go in for skiing, skating, table tennis, swimming,
volley-ball, football, body-building, etc.
All necessary facilities are provided for them: stadiums,
sport grounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, skiing stations,
football fields.
Sport is paid much attention to in our educational
establishments. Gymnastics is a part of children's daily
activities in the kindergartens. Physical culture is compulsory
subject at schools and colleges.
Professional sport is also paid much attention to in our
country. In city, where I live, there are diferent sporting societies,
clubs and complexes.
Practically all kinds of sports are popular in our country,
but football, gymnastics and tennis enjoy the greatest
popularity. As for me, I go in for table tennis (ping-pong). It
needs mobility, liveliness and much energy. It keeps a person
in a good form. I have been playing tennis for five years, but
the more I play, the more I like it. I get a real joy taking part
in competitions or simply playing with my friends. Sometimes,
I go to tennis courts.
Certainly, there's a great distance between my manner

of playing and such favourites as Jim Courier, Stephan Edberg,
Pete Sampras, Boris Becker, Per Korda, but I do my training
with great pleasure and hope to play as well as our best
players do.
My Birthday
Birthday is a very wonderful day. Everybody likes to celebrate it. It is a good opportunity to
spend time with friends, parents, relatives. I was born on the 10th of January. In the morning on
my birthday my parents lay the presents near my bed. So the first thing I see when I open my
eyes is my presents. My Mom and Daddy and my little brother come to my room to congratulate
me and to sing "Happy Birthday". Usually we hold my birthday party in the evening. Once we
went to a cafe to celebrate my birthday, but usually we celebrate it at home. We clean the house
the day before birthday. In the morning of birthday party day my father goes shopping and buys
everything we need. My mother bakes a cake or pie. By the evening food is cooked, the table is
layed. We put on evening suits and dresses and wait for the guests. The flat looks nice and
cosy. I am always very glad to meet my guests. I like to get flowers and presents. Mom gives
me the telegram from my aunt. We have an abundant dinner on this day. Mom brings in the
birthday cake. I blow the candles out. We dance and sing songs, play games and laugh, joke,
tell funny stories. I think that my birthday is one of the best days in a year.
Food around the World.
99% of human history, people took their food from the world around them. They ate all that they
could find, and they moved on. Then about 10,000 years ago, or for 1% of human history,
people learned to farm the land and control their environment.
The kind of food we eat depends on which part of the world we live in. For example, in the south
of China they eat rice, but in the north they eat noodles. In Scandinavia, they eat a lot of
herrings, and the Portuguese love sardines. But in central Europe, away from the sea, people
don’t eat so much fish, they eat more meat and sausages.
In North America, Australia and Europe there are two or more courses to every meal and people
eat with knives and forks.
In China there is only one course, all the food is together on the table, and they eat with
chopsticks.
In parts of India and the Middle East people use their fingers and bread to pick up the food.
Nowadays it is possible to transport food easily from one part of the world to the other. We can
eat what we like, when we like, at any time of the year. Our bananas come from the Caribbean

or Africa; our rice comes from India or the USA; our strawberries come from Chile or Spain.
Food is very big business. But people in poor countries are still hungry, and people in rich
countries eat too much.
My Plans for the Future
This year I'm leaving school. I have already decided what career to choose. I would like to be a
psychologist. I want to help people to solve their problems. I want to help them to understand
their inside world, to help them to be confident. I love working with people and children. I think
it's a difficult job, because one should love people, take care of them, support them. This
profession is rather new and hence very interesting. Psychologists work with people from
different layers of society. I realize that my dream can come true only if I work hard.
Teacher of English
It is not easy to decide what profession to choose. Usually, pupils' plans for the future change
many times during the school years. There are so many people who influence you in choosing
your occupation. Parents and friends play a very important role in your choice. Teachers'
influence on pupils' minds is also great. My favourite subject is English. And I think this is my
teacher who made it so. I understand the importance of knowledge of a foreign language. It
enables people from different countries to communicate with each other, to read foreign
literature in the original, to broaden their outlooks. So I decided for myself to become a teacher
of English. Of course, I know that it is not easy and takes much patience and effort. A teacher
has to know how to teach, how to make difficult things understandable, how to get students
interested in the subject. And of course a teacher ought to have perfect knowledge of his
subject. I think the ideal teacher is the one who can combine all these. My present teacher is
just like this. She is a great specialist and also a nice personality. I hope in future I can become
as good teacher as she is.
My Future Profession
Finishing school is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school leavers. Many
roads are opened before them: vocational and technical schools, institutes and universities. But
it is not an easy thing to choose a profession out of more than 2,000 existing in the world. Some
pupils follow the advice of their parents, others can't decide even after leaving school. As for
me, I made my choice long ago. I want to become a teacher of the Ukrainian language and
literature. My choice of this occupation didn't come as a sudden flash. During all school years
literature was my favourite subject. I've read a lot of books by Ukrainian and foreign writers. I

understand that reading books helps people in selfeducation and in solving different life
problems. I would like to teach my pupils to enjoy reading, to encourage them to learn our
national language and literature, which is the source of national culture. It is known that
teaching is a very specific and difficult job. It shouldn't be taken easily. The teacher is a person
who is learning as well as teaching all his life. Most jobs can be done within the usual office
hours from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m., but teacher's work is never done and evenings are usually spent in
marking exercise-books and preparing for the next lesson. Teachers do not only teach their
subjects. They develop their pupils' intellect, form their views and characters, their attitudes to
life and to other people. It's a great responsibility and the teacher must be a model of
competence himself. It's not as easy as it may seem at first. But I think that love for children
combined with the knowledge I'll get at the University would be quite enough to succeed in my
work. I'm applying to the philological department and I am sure my dream will come true sooner
or later.
My Favourite Film
Last Tuesday I saw the film "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare. The starring was perfect.
Romeo was played by Leonardo DiCaprio. And I'll try to tell you about this film. In the town of
Verona there were two rich families, the Capulets and the Montagues. There was an old quarrel
between those two families. One day Capulet made a great supper. At that supper Romeo saw
Juliet and fell in love with her at ones. Juliet had the same feelings. Romeo asked Juliet to
marry him. She agreed, but nobody knew about their plan. The next day Romeo and Juliet
came to friar and he married them. Some days passed and Juliet's father told her that she was
to marry a young man whose name was Paris. Juliet didn't know what to do. But the friar helped
her. He gave her medicine and told her to go home and be ready to marry Paris. But when she
drinks that medicine she will sleep for forty — two hours. Juliet did as the friar told her. Juliet's
parents thought that she was dead and put her into the family tomb. When Romeo heard that
Juliet was dead he bought some poison and went to the tomb of the Capulets. Paris was there
and Romeo killed him. Then Romeo kissed Juliet and drank his poison. At this moment Juliet
woke up and saw that the young man was dead. Juliet took a dagger that was on the floor and
killed herself.
My last trip
Travelling is the most exciting thing in the world. First of all, it lets us discover the world and to
see different countries, experience their cultures and traditions. Moreover, we enrich our
knowledge about life in general and particularly about ourselves. Travelling also gives us an
opportunity to meet new interesting people, learn new languages and develop our skills. That’s
why I’m trying to travel as much as possible.The best trip I’ve ever had in my life was to France.
Although it happened two years ago, but I still recall this wonderful time with a great pleasure. I
went there with two of my friends and it was really the right decision, because we travelled by

coach and the journey took a long time. We were playing cards on the way, singing songs and
joking all the time. As we arrived we checked in a hotel not far from the center. We were
exhausted but in a good mood.The first day in Paris was fantastic. It was a bus tour around the
city called Open Tour. We got on a bus at the nearest stop. It was amazing that it stopped in
front of all sights, so we could get off and walk around the most famous places. We took
thousands of photos of Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Arch of Triumph and other monuments. We
were impressed by the number of tourists and the beauty of the places we visited. We spent 4
other days in Paris, but this first time our impressions were thrilling.The next days we visited
plenty of museums and had some time for small shopping to buy souvenirs. Last evening we
went on a small excursion by boat. It was amazing to be on board and to see all the sights
again as if they were saying goodbye to us.Thus, it was fantastic time and I hope to come back
to Paris one day to get the same marvelous emotions there.
Review of a book 1
Reading has been an effective tool to discover the life for many centuries. Books can be your
guide to living, can develop your understanding of the world around and are also one of the
most popular leisure time activities of all.
As for me, I discovered the wonderful world of reading when I was 10. I had read several books
before but the book I was presented for my tenth birthday changed my attitude to reading and I
started doing it for pleasure. I still remember this story in all details and treat it as my favourite
one.
The title of this book is “Five go to Smuggler’s Top” and it is written by Enid Blyton, a famous
British writer who wrote series of adventure books for children. My favourite book belongs to
one of the most well-known series “The famous five” and tells about the adventures of four
children and their faithful dog.
The main characters of the book are siblings Julian, Dick and Ann and their cousin George who
is actually a girl whose full name is Georgina. She is my favourite character of this book
because of her extremely interesting personality and identity. She has a dog called Timmy who
plays an important role in this story. The adventures of these children begin as soon as they
arrive to live in Mr. Lenoir’s house. There they meet Mr. Lenoir’s son Sooty who quickly
becomes their friend. The key point is that Timmy is not allowed to live in this house so the
children have to keep him secretly in the tunnels beneath the house. Using these tunnels to
walk Timmy they find out the mystery of smugglers and their criminal activity.
I find this book really fascinating. It keeps your attention from the first page and it’s difficult to
predict what is going to happen next. It’s especially interesting to understand who is who and
find out the criminals in the end. The children get into troubles constantly and you’re worried
about them all the time. I recommend reading this book to all teenagers who are keen on such
kind of literature. It is going to blow you away.

My favourite book is "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
I first discovered these stories when I was about twelve and I've loved them ever since.
They're brilliantly written, full of bizarre crimes and they've got a terrific Victorian atmosphere.
When you read them you really feel like you've been carried back to nineteenth-century
London.
All the twentieth century detectives like Miss Marple and Inspector Morse seem really boring
compared to Sherlock Holmes.
That's where Conan Doyle, really makes you believe that Holmes is unique — a genius with
amazing mental powers.
Normally I only read detective stories once. I mean, why read them again when you know
what happens in the end?
With the Sherlock Holmes stories, though, its different.
Each time I re-read them I discover more and more to enjoy.
Seasons and Weather
There are four seasons in a year: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
March, April and May are spring months. Spring is the most pleasant of all the seasons of the
year. The weather is getting warmer and warmer, everything changes and seems to revive. The
trees begin to bud. Sometimes it rains, but there are no rough winds; the sun shines brightly.
The grass is green and one can see a lot of flowers peeping out from it. In spring all the
migratory birds return. They sing sweetly on the branches of the trees.
The summer months are June, July and August. Summer is the hottest season of the year. The
days are longest in summer. The longest day of the year is the 22nd of June. Some people like
summer best of all. All of us enjoy summer with its cloudless sunshine, with its gardens and
meadows full of flowers. There is a lot of fruit and vegetables at that time. In summer many
people leave town and spend the hottest time in the country or at the seaside.
After summer autumn comes. The autumn months are September, October and November. The
warm days of early autumn arc called the "Indian Summer" or the "Golden Autumn". The
"Golden Autumn" is really beautiful with its yellow, red and brown trees and golden leaves falling
down. Autumn is the season of fruit and vegetables. But the days become shorter and the
nights longer and darker.
The weather is not so good as in spring and in summer. It often rains and the air gets colder
and colder. Winter is the coldest season of the year, that is why we spend more time at home.

The winter months are December, January and February. The winter days are short and
gloomy. It often snows and it freezes. Some people like it very much. It is pleasant to walk when
it is not very cold and it snows. The ground is covered with snow. Ponds, lakes, rivers and
streams are frozen and the roads are sometimes covered with slippery ice or deep snow. We
may get fog, sleet and frost. The trees are bare because bitter winds stripped them of all leaves.
Winter also gives great opportunities for those who go for winter sports. I think every season
has a charm of its own.
My favorite season is summer, because I was born in summer. It is warm and sometimes hot. In
summer I can spend my time on the beach of lakes and rivers. I can drive my bicycle and our
car. We go to the forest for looking for berries and mushrooms. And of course I like Summer
very much because there is the longest holiday in summer.
