On reading that this is also "the living Water that irrigates rhe Earth to make it germinate." one is spontaneously reminded by way ot this spiritual blood, ot that other spilled by the dead bull of Mithras, which on tailing to earth produces the same etfect. Cf, Livre dc El Habir (CMA, 3:92): "It is important for you to know the power of this eternal water . because its power is that of the spiritual blood. When introduced into the body ... it transforms the body into spirit as ir is mixed wirh it, and both things then become one . . . The body which has given birth to the Spirit becomes spiritual and takes on the color of blood " Cf. also Della Riviera (Mondo magic o, 60-t): "And as the blood is the seat of the vital spirits, rhereby it contains in itself the spiritual life of everything. It is this blood thar Orpheus is talking about in the Lapidary, when he says that the blood ol Saturn fallen to earth, is congealed in Stone: these words contain, and perfectly embrace, both natural magics, diat is. the theoretical and the practical at the same time ... It stands to reasun, we read qabalistically, that the magical blood provides us with the health ol rhe vital spirits; because it contains said quintessence . . Moreover, this blood is called rhe Milk of rhe Virgin, the Virgin being understood as the Moon.”

  2. Bernard of Treviso, in his Sogno verde (Green Dream), speaks of a sea, red for being of blood. In it Boats an island having seven kingdoms, whither the author is transported by a whirlwind.
