Observatories And Astronomical Observations in Turkey (1575-1997)

In this work, both the historical evolution of observatories those were founded in Turkey and the astronomical observations which were done at those places from sixteenth century to 1997, the date of the establishment of TUBITAK National Observatory (TUG) are studied. For this purpose; Takiyuddin’s studies and Istanbul Observatory, Rasathane-i Amire and Kandilli Observatory, Istanbul University Science Faculty Astronomy and Space Sciences Department, Ankara University Science Faculty Astronomy and Space Sciences Department, Ege University Science Faculty Astonomy and Space Sciences Department, and their observatories was investigated.

Furthermore, it was tried to obtain instrumental equipments of those observatories and to achieve whole detailed presentations of astronomical observations which were done at those observatories. In addition to the localities, which were founded observatories, it was also investigated why those places were chosen and all of these evidences are presented in this thesis.
