The Investigation of “Yamaç Evler” Part of The Antandros Ancient City with Magnetic Method.

Archaeology is an important discipline which enables to define the past of each country’s people, culture and the values peculiar to each civilization. Archaeological studies require a process which entails a great deal of time and a work of delicate kind. In order to curtail the working duration, to make more research in shorter time and to present more information to both science and human beings, “ARCHAEOGEOPHYSICS” is born out from the relationship between archaeology and geophysics. This archaeo geophysical study was realized in around of Altınoluk, the town of Balıkesir, and in the part of “Yamaç Evler” of the ancient city, Antandros, which is under the responsibility of the Asst. Prof. Gürcan Polat, the instructor of Ege University. This study was carried out in the investigation site, approximately 36 x 72 m2 area and the profile directions were chosen with 0.5 m spacings and 0.25 m specings for the measuring points. Magnetic method and gradiometric proton magnetometer was performed for the archaeogeophysical measurements. Daily corrections were applied to the datas, which obtained from the magnetic measurements and some filtering methods was actualized by determining the account of cutting waves which was appropriate to the up and down sensor magnetic anomaly maps during the data processings. After that, with the help of analytical elongation results, which were applied to the data, it was formed an opinion about depth of the wanted constructions and then a structure boundary analysis was carried out. The first and the second derivatives were also used in the aid of interpretation. For depth indication, it was utilized by the study of model and power spectrum. The coefficient of magnetization (susceptibility) which was determined through the samples taken from the investigation site was used in the study of model. At the end of all those processes, it was obtained information about the probable archaeological objects under ground. According to this knowledge acquired in the study, some suggestions are provided for archaelogists for the next digging studies.
