The above mentioned allowed us to conclude that main oil and gas
reservoirs are associated with Upper Cretaceous weathering volcanic and
Eocene-Lower Miocene fractured mudstones with thin interbedded deep-
water sandstones. The main source rocks in the basin are the Lower Eocene
and the Oligocene–Miocene (Maykopian) shales. The composition of the oils
differs with their comparatively more developed lithogenesis, thermal maturity,
thickness, and organic substance and bitumen content. Therefore, these rocks
have relatively much more developed oil generating potential. Maykopian
shale deposited locally in small half-grabens and as more widespread
deposited in the Paleogene sedimentary complex within the Yevlakh-
Aghjabedi basin. The basin’s petroleum systems are characterized wide range
of litho-stratigraphically different elements and processes from Cretaceous,
to Paleogene-Neogene rocks. Variation of stratigraphic and depositional
range of oil and gas generation and accumulations in the basin were caused
by different multiphase structural-geological and depositional processes.
