A geodetic network is a collection of points on Earth connected by geodesic lines and
having known coordinates. The reliability and accuracy of the methods used in creating a geodetic
network is crucial for many fields of science and practice, including cartography, navigation,
construction and geology.
One of the key methods of constructing geodetic networks is polygonometry.
Polygonometry is a method of geodetic surveying, which is based on measuring angles and line
lengths inside a polyhedron (polygon). With the help of special devices called theodolites and
rangefinders, surveyors measure horizontal and vertical angles, as well as distances between points.
This data is then used to calculate the coordinates of the points of the geodetic network.
Polygonometry requires not only good equipment and tools, but also highly qualified
surveyors. After all, the accuracy and reliability of the data obtained largely depend on the correct
execution of measurements and analysis of the results. Therefore, geodetic services strive to
constantly improve the methods of polygonometry and train specialists using modern technologies
and software.
In conclusion, it should be noted that polygonometry plays a crucial role in creating reliable
and accurate geodetic networks. Its application makes it possible to obtain high-quality data on the
coordinates of points on the Earth, which in turn contributes to the development of many branches
of science and technology.
Building a geodetic network is a complex and labor—intensive process that includes various
methods and technologies. One of the main methods is polygonometry. It is based on measuring
angles, lengths and directions between measuring points, which allows you to build triangles and
determine their coordinates relative to the reference points.
The role of the geodetic network is necessary in many areas, ranging from construction and
design to geology and agriculture. It allows you to determine the exact position of objects, the
height of the terrain, leveling and deformation of the Earth's surface. The geodetic network is also
used to create maps and plans, as well as to determine the boundaries of territories.
The construction of a geodetic network requires high accuracy and reliability of
measurements. To do this, modern tools and technologies are used, such as electronic total stations,
global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), laser scanning and others. All this makes it possible to
achieve high accuracy in determining coordinates and heights.
In conclusion, the geodetic network plays a key role in geodesy and geodetic topography.
Building such a network requires the use of various methods, including polygonometry. It allows
you to determine the coordinates and heights of objects, create accurate maps and plans, as well as
determine the leveling and deformation of the Earth's surface. The geodetic network is an integral
part of many fields of activity and provides accurate and reliable data for their work.
Polygonometric work allows you to obtain accurate data on geometric transformations
between points, which is important for the design and construction of various objects.
Polygonometry also allows you to estimate the measurement error and correct the data obtained.

To carry out polygonometric work, it is necessary to use special equipment, such as
theodolites and polygonometric observation stations. Measurements are carried out with high
accuracy, which allows you to create reliable geodetic networks.
Polygonometry plays an important role in geodesy, as it allows you to build accurate and
reliable geodetic networks, which are the basis for various geodetic and engineering works. The
correct use of polygonometry allows you to obtain accurate data on the geometric characteristics of
objects and perform high-quality surveys and design.
One of the main methods is polygonometry, which is based on measurements of horizontal
and vertical angles between certain points. When using polygonometry, triangles are constructed,
the angles of which are measured using a theodolite or other special tools.
Another method is trivialization or trivial triangulation, which consists in constructing
triangles in which all sides are known. This method is based on the use of already measured and
known sides and angles to construct new triangles. Trivialization allows you to quickly and easily
create geodetic networks with high accuracy.
There is also a triangulation method with a hanging, which allows you to build triangles using
distance measurements between points. Special instruments such as theodolites or electronic laser
meters can be used to measure ranges. This method allows you to create geodetic networks over
long distances or in difficult conditions.
The main methods of constructing geodetic networks have various advantages and
disadvantages, and the choice of method depends on the specific task and working conditions. The
work of a surveyor includes choosing the optimal method, carrying out measurements and
processing the data obtained to create a reliable and accurate geodetic network.
