CONCLUSION Romanticism is an influential literary movement in England that changed literature permanently from the drastically modest and structured ideals of Puritanism. Two contrasting types of authors, Romantics and Dark Romantics, introduce new, meaningful literature to England; while Romantics see the light and airy side of the world, Dark Romantics see the darker more horrific side. This drastically modified literary period is influenced by Europe and was revolutionary for England from the moment it arrived. Rejects the normal, rational thought and praises the unpredictability and complexity of emotion. Romanticism has changed England literature forever. Despite its name, the Romantic literary period has little to nothing to do with love and romance that often comes with love; instead it focuses on the expression of feelings and imagination. Romanticism originally started in Europe, first seen in Germany in the eighteenth century, and began influencing England writers in the 1800s. The movement lasts for sixty years and is a rejection of a rationalist period of logic and reason. Gary Arpin, author of multiple selections in Elements of Literature: Fifth Course, presents the idea that, “To the Romantic sensibility, the imagination, spontaneity, individual feelings and wild nature were of greater value than reason, logic, planning and cultivation” The Romantic author rejects logic and writes wild, spontaneous stories and poems inspired by myths, folk tales, and even the supernatural. Not only do the Romantics reject logic and reasoning, they praise innocence, youthfulness and creativity as well as the beauty and refuge.
As we have already above mentioned, there are many literary trends and movements in the theory of literature such as Romanticism, Realism, Sentimentalism, Modernism, Naturalism and many other.
Having appeared in Germany and very quickly spread to America and France Romanticism came to the United States in 1820. Romanticism is a complex artistic, literary and intellectual movement that gained strength during the industrial revolution. It was partly a revolt against aristocratic social and political norms of Age of Enlightenment and a reaction against the scientific rationalization of nature, and was embodied most strongly in literature.
Realism in literature is the depiction of subjects as they appear in everyday life without embellishment or interpretation. The term also describes works of art which, in revealing truth may emphasize the ugly or sordid.
Sentimentalism was defined as either a disease of the moral nature, or a perversion of imagination; either the illusive confounded with the actual, or fancy taken in preference to fact; either on emotional self-deception, or a pretentious unrealism. Sentimentalism is the movement which puts human feelings in the first place.
Modernism is the term appeared in the twenties of the 20th century which express literary aesthetic system.
