4. Conclusions
The utilization of plants as a wellspring of examination in the quest for dynamic mixtures for medication has been demonstrated to have a significant scientific yield. The Scopus database of scientific literature on medicinal plants clearly demonstrates that progress has been rapid over the past 20 years, peaking in 2010.The number of publications has remained steady at just over 5,000 per year since this year.
The study of products derived from plants demonstrates a strong partnership between nations of the first world and those with a long history of using these plants, such as those in Asia, Africa, or Latin America, in the production of new medicines that have been scientifically tested for safety and effectiveness. China, India, Indonesia, and Pakistan lead the Asia-based analysis of the various clusters of cooperation between nations; two from Africa, led by Cameroon and South Africa, followed by one from Latin America, led by Brazil, and one from North America, led by the United States. It has been demonstrated that there is not a group of European nations, but rather that they typically collaborate with nations with which they have commercial ties. In contrast to China and India, medicinal plant research in Africa is severely underdeveloped. Truth be told, there is no African country among the nations that distributed the most in this field. Only one of the first 25 institutions is located on the African continent.13 (including the first seven) of these top 25 come from China, 3 from Brazil, 2 from South Korea, and 1 from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, Mexico, Cameroon, France, and Malaysia
This is demonstrated by the fact that only 11% of the more than 100,000 publications analyzed belong to the Agricultural and Biological Sciences category, while over 50% belong to the Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Pharmaceutics category and Medicine. The lack of agronomic research on the domestication, production, or genetic or biotechnological breeding of medicinal plants is highlighted in this study.
