3.1.1. Homework Task Eleven

Based on what you have learned in this section, develop or choose an available diagnostic assessment tool that will measure the concepts you want to teach in the lesson plan that you chose in Homework Task. Thus, explain the brief diagnostic assessment you will use to measure the constructs BEFORE the class. Finally, explain how you will use the information to make informed decisions about your lesson plan (2 pages total).

In my homework task 1 I used Gap filling technique to develop my students’ speaking skills and give equal opportunities to all students to speak during the lesson. With the help of this technique I am planning to teach the elements of a text reading. I will develop the following 2 diagnostic assessment tools:

Diagnostic assessment tool 1: Read and fill in the blanks in the following statements.

  1. ________ is the primary determinant of teacher effectiveness.

  2. When preparing the work area, learn the regulations regarding fire, earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, and other natural disasters, and have the classroom ready for such _______.

  3. When preparing the floor space, place student’s _______ where they can easily see the teacher during whole class or small group instruction.

  4. To be a teacher, the first thing you need to know is to _______ a classroom full of students.

  5. To be an effective teacher, be ___________.

  6. If you choose to have everything on and in your desk treated as personal property, make this clear during your teaching of classroom ___________ and routines.

  7. Classroom management refers to all of the things a teacher does to organize students, space, time, and materials so that instruction in content and student ____________can take place.

  8. Teachers who are ready _________ student learning and _________student misbehavior.

  9. In a well-managed classroom, the climate of the classroom is_______, but relaxed and pleasant.

  10. An ineffective teacher makes up _______ and punishes according to his/her mood.

Diagnostic assessment tool 2: Match the following instructions with examples.

1. At the beginning of class…

1. Find your seat.
2. Copy the agenda on the board.
3. Copy the Journal question in your notebook.

2. When we are learning…

1. Please do not interrupt when Mrs. Simpson or a classmate is talking.
2. Please participate in our discussions.

3. Remember… we must practice Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing in English. It is ok to make mistakes. That is how we learn.

3. When it is time to go…

1. Pack up your materials and leave the room quietly.

2. If you did not finish an assignment, you must finish the assignment for homework.

3. Make sure you know what is for homework.

In my diagnostic assessment tools I have focused on whether students are familiar with the elements of the story and the influence of those elements on understanding, exploring the moral of the story. The results of the diagnostic assessment tool 1will tell me whether students can do analysis of the story, while the 2nd one will give me information whether students are familiar with the terms used while doing the analysis of the short story.
