Archeological Museum This museum is a short walk from the Train Station. This was the last attraction that we visited on our day tip to Termez, and it was a great experience. The two story building has the main exhibits on the 2nd floor, but also an interesting section on the 1st floor. The exhibits on the first floor were from many eras but focused on some of the more important archaeological discoveries in the region. Of particular interest here is the bath tub exhibit and the pottery. There was a special exhibit dedicated to Japanese archaeologist, Kyudzo Kato, who died in 2016. He is known for his work at the Fayaz tepa and Kara tepa sites.
Must see if you are in the area. Buddhist heritage, so very different from most other Uzbek sights. I was travelling solo. In the archeological museum of Termez, I met English speaking guide Rayhon who organized a driver to go there, in combination with neighboring Kara Tepa. The local guard gave a tour in basic English. If possible, be there at sunset. Across the Amu Darya, you look into Afghanistan.
Termiz is the southernmost city and administrative center of Surkhandarya region. In this city and its surroundings, there are a lot of attractions related to various religions - fire worship, Nestorianism, Buddhism and Islam. According to archaeologists, the city was built in the 1st millennium BC, which indicates that it is one of the oldest cities in the world.
The name "Termiz" is derived from the word "Taramastakh", which means "located on the opposite bank", and the city was called by its current name only in the 10th century. Until this time, it was called by many names, for example: Demitrias, Antiochia, Tamo, Tami and others. It is believed that Buddhism came to the city of Termiz during the Greco-Bactrian kingdom. This is evidenced by a large number of fossil finds belonging to that period by archaeologists.

Pilaf is a traditional dish for all cities of Uzbekistan. Did you know that Surkhandarya region has set a record for making the largest pilaf in the world? Cooks in Denov region prepared pilaf weighing almost 9 tons. But this city is not only famous for pilaf. In Termez, you can find many cafes and restaurants ready to introduce you to traditional Surkhandarya cuisine. The menu includes soup, pot kebabs and what the locals call mutton. It is a mutton dish that is cooked for a long time until it melts in your mouth. The meat is easily separated from the bone, and the butt is so tasty and does not resemble ordinary fat that even a person who does not like such dishes cannot refuse it. Al Hakim al-Tirmizi mausoleum, sacred to Muslims, is an architectural monument located on the outskirts of the ancient city of Termiz. Abu Abdullah ibn Hasan ibn Bashir al-Hakimi al-Tirmizi, a great Islamic figure, the author of various philosophical and religious works, the creator of the dervish community, is buried in the mausoleum. He is also known as Termiz-ota among the people. According to legend, when he was ten years old, a vision came to him and an old man gave him knowledge. Over time, he gained fame, but continued to live modestly in his parents' house. Hakim al-Tirmizi died as a martyr - the enemies who invaded the city in his old age cut him off from the beginning (end of the 9th century).
According to legend, Genghis Khan was amazed by this unique masterpiece and ordered his army not to damage the monument, because he believed that this building was not created by people, but by gods.
A dome rises above the mausoleum, and inside the building there are very luxurious decorations. The tombstone of the saint, made of marble and decorated with unique patterns and Arabic inscriptions, attracts attention. Next to the ensemble is a Jame Mosque, which was built a little later.
