Purpose of the Internship

  • A thorough study of high-technology and innovative developments and methods of research in scientific laboratories. Study of modern laboratory structure and processes.

Tasks to complete during internship

Study of research methods used in ITU and the possibility of their application in our university


Carrying out research on our samples on state-of-the-art instruments:
SEM with EDX capability
X-ray phase analysis
Optical microscope with digital camera and fluoresan detection attachment
Surface cleaner by plasma chamber
Investigate the magnetic parameters of a silicon sample doped with impurity atoms in which auto oscillations are observed.
Analysis and discussion of the obtained results, and submission for publication. Drawing up a plan for further scientific activity

  • The clean room has the wet/dry etch capability and PVD-based deposition system. There are also several tools for the characterization of microsystems. There are also several simulation tools.
  • Mask aligner with UV and DUV (248 nm) light source

  • PVD with e-beam, thermal evaporation, and DC sputtering capability
  • Wet etching area: Spinner, hot plates, and other relevant pieces

Arrival at the MEMS Research Center at Istanbul Technical University. Introduction to the scientific laboratories. Introduction to the modern equipment for scientific and educational research of the Faculty of Physics.

Acquaintance with programs and presentations of lectures on modern methods of semiconductor materials research. Acquaintance with the leading research and production centers in the field of semiconductors.

3

Study of the structure and properties of semiconductor materials using modern analytical equipment. Preparation of materials doped with Se, S, Zn impurities. Processing and analysis of experimental results.

Discussion of the results. Participation in scientific discussions and scientific seminars, conducted by scientists of MEMS Research Center at Istanbul Technical University. Preparation of the results of the internship for publication in the proceedings of the International Scientific Conference and for publication in a foreign journal.

Expecting Results

Learn to work on SEM with EDX capability, AFM instruments at the MEMS research center


Scientific co-operation between TSTU and ITU will be established
Obtain new research results for my samples
Based on the obtained new results, publication of a joint scientific article in the Scopus and WoS databases.
