From the Principal
Thank you to all parents who attended
Meet the Teacher sessions last week. If
you were unable to attend and would like
to „meet‟ your child‟s new teacher, please
contact them directly to make a mutually
convenient time to meet. Formal reporting
times for this year will be just before
Easter, in July and at the end of the year.
However, if you have any questions or
concerns at any stage about your child‟s
progress, please contact the teacher
directly. Similarly, if the teacher has any
concerns, they will contact you to arrange
a time to meet.
A big thank you to all parents who
attended the family barbeque last night at
the year 5-6 camp. All students had a great
time and made it through the night (and so
did staff!) As well as a fabulous bonding
opportunity, students have also engaged in
lots of leadership activities to set them up
for the year ahead. One highlight was the
election of House Captains, run by a
representative from the Australian
Electoral Commission. Well done to all
students who stood for election. It takes
courage to put yourself forward for such a
role and even if you weren‟t selected, this
is a valuable learning experience for life.
Voting was so close that one captain and
two vice captains were elected for each
house. Congratulations to the following
students on your successful election!
Connewarre: Caitlyn Green (Captain),
Zakk Long (Vice), Jamie Cook (Vice)
Derwent: Alissa Bailey (Captain), Chelsy
Crosswell (Vice), Montana Fletcher (Vice)
Melaleuca: Diana Hawke (Captain), Riley
Phillips-Lee (Vice), Mathew Stanton (Vice)
Wellington: Tahlia Strong (Captain),
Connor Murray (Vice), Joel Triffitt (Vice)
Year 6 students were also given the
opportunity to design this year‟s Leavers‟
tops. The „winning design‟ will be chosen
and made into tops as soon as possible so
that students can wear the tops for as long
as possible this year. Special thanks to
teachers who stayed overnight at the
camp. It is a big commitment to be away
from your own families for the night but
I‟m sure students appreciated it! Thanks
also to all staff who attended the barbeque
tea. It was great to see you all there!
This Friday is our school Athletics Carnival
for all year3-6 students and parents are
most welcome to attend! The carnival will
commence at 11:30 and conclude by 2:45.
You should have already received a
program so you can see the order of
events. If you have lost yours, please just
ask for another copy at the office. In past
years there has sometimes been confusion
about how students are selected for the
inter school carnival. Students are
allocated to a division, as a result of their
times in class PE lessons. Only students
who compete in Division 1 events, will be
eligible for selection to the inter-school
carnival. If you have any queries about this,
please don‟t hesitate to discuss further
with our Health and Wellbeing teacher,
Ms Georgina Harris.
A reminder that next Tuesday 5 March is
our School Association AGM at 5:30. So
far we have received 6 parent nominations
for election to the committee. If you
would like to nominate but have lost your
form, please just ask for another one at
the office. This is your opportunity to have
a say in how our school is run. We always
welcome new membership, so don‟t be
shy if you haven‟t been before. If you
would like to know more about the role
of the Association, please pop in to see me
or ask one of our current parent reps.

School Psychologist at Windermere Primary
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you something of what
I do.
I am one of a team supporting student and school needs in the Southern Learning
Service. This team includes School Psychologists, Social Workers, Speech Pathologists
and Support Teachers as well as other specialist support personnel. As a School
Psychologist, I am a registered teacher and psychologist, with qualifications, training and
experience in both fields.
Generally, school concerns are handled by the teaching staff. However, there are
occasions when “someone else” is needed. At such times a support team member may
be able to assist.
My job as School Psychologist is to support students, and school staff in the work they do. I am available for
students to talk over problems. Students can call on me and an appointment is made to suit their timetable.
Parents are also welcome to contact me in regard to concerns about their children, and sometimes I may get in
touch with you. I spend some of my time assessing students‟ skills and learning abilities, listening to teachers and,
with them, making decisions on how best to meet students needs. I am consulted on a variety of issues by parents,
students and teaching staff. For example, personal crises and tragedy, problems of getting along with other
students, grief, stress, dealing with bullying, disruptive behaviour, classroom management, planning for future goals
and counselling for desired changes.
At Windermere all staff work for best outcomes for our students. It is my job to work with the school and plan for
the best learning environment possible for the children. Therefore anything that comes between students and
effective learning is the realm of the School Psychologist and other Windermere Support personnel.
My base school is Windermere Primary School. This year I will be at Windermere Primary on Mondays, Tuesdays
and every second Wednesday. On other days by all means call Windermere and ask the office to pass on a message
so that I can call you back.
Val Boyd, School Psychologist.
