Introduction
Literature is made into many forms, such as drama, prose, and poetry. Literary work always carries that means so that the message from the author can be obtained through the reader. Literary works typically painting the troubles which appear in society, for examples, cultural, economic, politic, gender, class, and psychological issues. These problems might painting the circumstance in society. The trouble which discussed in this lookup is the gender problem which contained in the novel Eat, Pray, Love. Elizabeth Gilbert is the writer and the essential character in the novel Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India, and Indonesia. The novel is about the ride of Elizabeth Gilbert which is completed after her divorce. Her failure of marriage teaches her a lot of experiences about life. She loses herself after the divorce, and she commits to celibate for a complete 12 months and tries to locate the stability of life through travelling to three countries, Italy, India, and Indonesia. Luckily, in her journey, Liz meets a lot of great pals who share so many experiencesand it makes her analyze a lot of things about life, and slowly her existence turns into stability again. 1
Gilbert, at the establishing of the story, is a married woman to a man whose title is no longer mentioned. According to the story, Gilbert is unhappy with her marriage. From her point of view, her husband does not make the same effort as her in jogging their household. Therefore, Gilbert decides to cut up up with her husband. The divorce goes hard, and Gilbert is inclined to do something in order to liberate herself from the marriage, even when she has to share her retirement saving to her husband. Gilbert does the whole lot to detach from the superiority of her husband in the marriage. After her husband subsequently agreed to divorce, Gilbert decides to take a journey to Italy, India, and Indonesia in order to locate lifestyles balance. In these countries, Gilbert meets a lot of superb people who assist her to discover the existence balance. It turns out that Gilbert is no longer on my own in hostilities patriarchy. There are a lot of patriarchal exercise occurs out there. The experiences that manifest to her pals whom she meets on the trip affect Gilbert in her way of thinking towards life. The topic chosen in this study is Gilbert's effort in conflict patriarchy in Eat, Pray, Love. Gilbert and the different girl characters experience issues associated to patriarchy.
The subject matter is chosen with the aid of the researcher due to the fact even in this cutting-edge era, patriarchal practice is nonetheless occurring everywhere. Eat, Pray, Love is chosen by way of the researcher as the object of this study. There are three reasons why the researcher preferences this novel as the object of this research. She encourages ladies who are unlucky because of the patriarchal society. Second, Eat Pray Love shows the braveness of a lady in making the decision. And the last one, the story depicts the cultural values and identities from every country which are visited by way of Gilbert in the journey. Thus, there are three motives why the researcher chooses this novel as the object of this thesis. The intention of this thesis is to discover the feminism as seen via Gilbert's actions and thoughts. The researcher takes the information about what the patriarchal practices which appear in Gilbert's existence experiences, the researcher identifies the actions and thoughts of Gilbert which mirror feminism.
