Directors serve because they possess passion and love for the affordable housing ministry of San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity.

They take the following actions that demonstrate their commitment to the work of SGV Habitat for Humanity:

  • Give personally and sacrificially through the Carpenter’s Club, Construction Campaigns, and special events to support SGV Habitat for Humanity’s work

    • Foundations

    • Places of worship

    • Corporations

    • Businesses

    • Individual donors

  • Advocate for the work of SGV Habitat for Humanity on a daily basis

  • Attend meetings

  • The 1Board of Directors (BOD) meets monthly on the 2nd Monday night of each month from 7:00-9:00 p.m.

  • The 2Executive Committee meets monthly on the 1st Monday afternoon of each month at 3:00 p.m.

  • Construction Campaign Committees meet at designated times

  • Devote at least 10-15 hours per month between BOD meetings to implement the strategic priorities of the Board including capacity building

  • Cultivating donors

  • Securing gifts-in-kind of building materials

    • Securing pro bono services for construction and other affiliate needs

    • Participating as a chair or member of one or more of the following standing committees

ReStore Site Development Special Events


The Board plans for the near- and long-term future of the affiliate through strategic planning, goal setting and evaluations.

  • Legal responsibilities

The Board ensures that the affiliate is in compliance with Federal and State law and with the U.S. Affiliation Agreement which is renewed annually with Habitat for Humanity International.

The Board ensures that the affiliate operates in accordance with its Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws.

  • Fiduciary responsibilities

The Board has fiduciary responsibility for SGV Habitat for Humanity to ensure the financial accountability of the affiliate. The Board reviews, approves and monitors the budget to ensure that all funds and resources are used in an appropriate manner.

  • Personnel responsibilities

The Board is responsible for hiring, firing, evaluating and supporting the Executive Director.

  • Policy responsibilities

The Board is responsible for setting policy and updating and revising policies when needed.

Board members are doers, donors and door openers!

Board members are leaders!
San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity deeply appreciates

the volunteer services provided by its Directors!

1A Director is responsible for regular attendance at meetings except in cases of emergency.

2The Executive Committee is comprised of the officers for SGV Habitat for Humanity.
