Table 1 supplementary material. Checklist of the Sub-Saharan African melolonthine white grub and leaf chafer taxa (Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae) recorded from agricultural crops , including the life stage involved, larvae (L) or adult (A), locality (if stated), and source reference. Locality abbreviations include: Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), South Africa (SA), North (N), South (S), East (E) and West (W). For non-taxonomists, cf . is short for ‘ confer ’ meaning ‘ compare with ’ and is used when taxonomists have a specimen that is close to a species, but not being absolutely confident they indicate via cf . that it might also be another closely related species. Consequently, it is best to regard these as genus level, rather than species level identifications. Taxon omy of the Ablaberini, Sericini and Trochalina courtesy of Dr Dirk Ahrens , including the endnotes for this section of the table.
