Atmosphere-supplying respirators
6.15.1
An employer must ensure that air in an atmosphere-supplying
respirator that is provided to a worker meets
the purity requirements
set out in CAN/CSA Standard-Z180.1-13,
Compressed Breathing Air
and Systems.

Working in dangerous atmospheres
6.16(1) An employer must provide a worker who is required to enter an
atmosphere that is immediately dangerous
to his or her safety or
health with one of the following atmosphere-supplying respirators:
(a) an open-circuit SCBA, which
(i) is sufficiently charged to enable the worker to perform the
work safely,
(ii) operates in a pressure demand
or positive pressure mode,
and
(iii) has a minimum rated capacity of 30 minutes;
(b) an airline respirator equipped with a full face piece that
(i) operates in a pressure demand or positive pressure mode,
and
(ii) has an auxiliary supply of air that is carried on the person
or within arm’s reach that is sufficient
to allow the worker
to escape in case of failure of the primary air supply
equipment;
(c) a closed-circuit SCBA.
