American drama. Women writers in the second half of the XXth century

Conclusion
In our course paper we tried to describe the women writers creation after World War II. American literature is the written or literary work produced in the area of the United States and its preceding colonies.
In history books World War II was a global military conflict between the nations that comprised the Allies and those that made up the opposing Axis. For over a decade, the war affected millions of people around the world, causing many to question their political allegiances and their identities as citizens of a nation. In literature the sentiments felt by millions during the decades that followed the war can be examined through the novels of many prominent writers. Four years after the end of the war, Arthur Miller wrote Death of a Salesman, a play that highlights the inability for many to realize the American Dream. Eudora Alice Welty (April 13, 1909 – July 23, 2001) was an American author of short stories and novels about the American South. The final story in The Golden Apples finds Virgie confronting her mother’s death, and with this death, Virgie breaks all ties to family and community. At her mother’s funerary viewing, Morgana tries to reach out to Virgie, but “They were all people who had never touched her before who tried now to struggle with her, their faces hurt. She was hurting them all, shocking them” (CS 435). She packs up her mother’s house, sells the cattle, and readies to leave Morgana. Delta Wedding by Eudora Welty creatively unfolds through the overheard thoughts of the members of the Fairchild family. The oversized clan deals with a massive amount of external and internal issues that focus on both the unity and the conflict within this tight-knit Southern family. This novel does not focus on one person, place, or thing. The protagonist of Delta Wedding is the Fairchild family in that the author tells the story through the voices of the entire family. However, the character of George does stand out as the hero of the novel. In the story of O’Connor "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" the event opens with an unnamed grandmother complaining to her son, Bailey, that she would rather go to Tennessee for vacation than Florida. The family resolves to go to Florida regardless. She spites them by rising early and waiting in the car, dressed in her Sunday best, so that if she should die in an accident she will be recognized as "a lady." The grandmother talks incessantly during the trip, recalling her youth in the Old South and commenting on various things she sees. When the family stops at a diner, called "The Tower," for lunch, she engages the owner, Red Sammy, in conversation about an escaped murderer known as "The Misfit." The grandmother agrees with Sammy's assertion that a good man is increasingly hard to find. In “Wise Blood” the writer described the family after the war. The plot unfolds with the return of Hazel Motes from the war after several years . He comes back to a world , where his family home is in ruins and most of the members missing or dead . On a journey of self discovery , he moves to Taulkinham city and starts preaching in the ``Church Without Christ ' which he establishes . He professed for faith in one 's own self rather than on ``God ' through his church . While serving his term in the United States Army , Hazel realized that dispensing with the soul is the way to escaping sin . Motes ' journey of denouncing religious faith starts with the establishment of the church .Enoch Emery , Asa Hawks and Sabbath Lily Hawks are three other prime characters that play an important part in the story . Asa awks is a blind preacher , served by Emery . Sabbath Lily is the illegitimate daughter of Hawks.
So American Women writers tried to describe the difficult life of people in their different works. The themes of novels and short stories were not about love and beauty but about the social life of people.
