 Animal Primary Tissues 
Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissues are the four main types of tissues found in 
multicellular, complex animals. Remember that tissues are collections of comparable cells (cells 
carrying out related functions). Organs with specific, specialized functions within the body are created 
when these tissues are combined to form organs like the skin or kidney. To carry out specific tasks, 
organs are grouped into organ systems. Examples include the circulatory system, which is made up 
of the heart and blood vessels, and the digestive system, which is made up of a number of organs 
including the stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas. An organism is made up of multiple organ 
systems.
