complex grammatical structures. Speech
is often easier to understand because it
contains repetition and hesitation.

context help you to understand. On the
telephone you do not have this help
because you cannot see the other
speaker. Recorded conversations are
similar because you are not part of the
conversation yourself. You are an
'outsider'. When listening to an IELTS
recording, you need to make good use of
any clues included in the question or in
the sound effects on the tape.
