CHAPTER 2.EFFECTIVE LESSON PLANNING STARTS WITH SMART GOALS
Lesson objectives should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. First, it should be clear. It answers the questions "what needs to be done?", "how do you know it's done," and "describes the outcome of what needs to be done." Second, it must be measurable. It answers the questions, "How do you know the expected answer?" Third, it must be achievable. "Can the student do it?" Fourth, it must be relevant. answers the questions. Finally, the lesson objectives should have a time frame. It answers the questions "when will this be done?" It is the expectation of what the students will be able to do after the lesson. It also allows the teacher to see. and check if the students have achieved the lesson objectives. ensures that. travel as far as possible towards learning success .As we discuss in more detail, understanding the components of an effective goal is important to the teacher's planning process, while students must understand the goal in such a way that they can explain it in their own words and understand its relevance. In other words, teachers who diligently write objectives that meet the SMART criteria must do so for their own understanding and understanding of the lesson. An objective probably won't work as a statement of purpose because students can get lost in the details. Students want to know what they will learn and how they will demonstrate their understanding. 7
"SMART" is a common mnemonic device to help people remember composition
Originally, SMART stood for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Based. However, it has been revised over time with additional wording for clarity. For example, Haughey (2010) suggests that:
S - specific, important, extended
M - measurable, meaningful, motivational
A - agreed, attainable, attainable, acceptable, action-oriented
R - realistic, relevant, rational, useful, results-oriented
T - time-based, timely, accurate, observable
