Introduction

Learning styles refer to a range of theories that aim to account for differences in individuals' learning. Although there is ample evidence that individuals express personal preferences for how they prefer to receive information, few studies have found any validity in using learning styles in education.

About me

A learning style is the way that different students learn. A style of learning refers to an individual's preferred way to absorb, process, comprehend and retain information. The four key learning styles are: visual, auditory, tactile and kinaesthetic.

Types of learning styles

  • Visual
  • Auditory
  • Read/write
  • Kinesthetic

Portfolio

Visual

Visual. If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. You can picture what you are learning in your head, and you learn best by using methods that are primarily visual. You
like to see what you are learning.

Auditory

Auditory learning means that a student learns most effectively by listening.
They would prefer listening to a lecture over reading a textbook, or hearing the instructions for a project instead of figuring it out
hands-on.

Read/write

Read/write learners learn primarily by reading and writing. They prefer to learn information by reading notes, handouts and textbooks. These learners make use of dictionaries and other reference materials. They also benefit by rewriting notes and rereading notes silently again and again.

Kinesthetic

A kinesthetic-tactile learning style requires that you manipulate or touch material to learn.
Kinesthetic-tactile techniques are used in combination with visual and/or auditory study techniques, producing multi- sensory learning.
