poetic samples and literary monuments, led textual criticism to a new stage
of development. The article gives information about Hatib Tebrizi and
Yusif Hoylu’s textual activities in XI-XVII centuries; about the researches
carried out on the manuscripts of the poem “Gulshen-i Raz” by Mahmut
Shebustari and “Shahname” by Firdovsi; the researches carried out by
Turkish scholars Sururi, Shami and Sudi in order to compile the scientific
text of “Gulustan” by Persian poet Sadi Shirazi and about the textual work
done on the manuscripts of the works by Hakani, Shirvani, Imadeddin
Nesimi, Nizami Gencevi and other Azerbaijani poets. What is more, textual
activities of Azerbaijani scholars Abdulgani Nukhavi Khalisagarizade and
Mirza Kazimbey, who played a significant role in the formation of textual
criticism as a scientific field and in the creation of its theoretical basis in
the XIX century, are also studied..
