Interwar economy 1923-1931
Although British economy benefited from
an immediate post-war boom, it was
followed by a harsh recession. The gradual return to economic growth is shown
in
the first document, and gives a snapshot of the economic situation in 1923
and 1924 during the period of recovery. The Wall Street crash of 1929 was
followed by a world depression, during which various countries increased trade
controls. The second document gives details of the trade situation from 1931
to 1933, when both imports and exports diminished.
