(summary) This article examines the statesman personality of Nariman Narimanov based on soviet archives sources and historical narratives. According to author, during the Soviet period, even until now, Narimanov was presented only like a writer, an intellectual and a revolutionist and his statesman personality was ignored. The activity of Narimanov was misinterpreted in two aspects: the communists blamed him as a nationalist and nasionalists blamed him as a bolshevik. Emphasizing the importance of the study of Nerimanov`s national state understanding, the author explores his national communism conception, attitudes relevant to national-cultural development and religious policy, struggle for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and his contributions to the relations with Turkey.
