Glossary

  1. God - (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.

  2. Torah - (in Judaism) the law of God as revealed to Moses and recorded in the first five books of the Hebrew scriptures (the Pentateuch).

  3. Orthodox - following or conforming to the traditional or generally accepted rules or beliefs of a religion, philosophy, or practice.

  4. Easter - the most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Christ and held (in the Western Church) between 21 March and 25 April, on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the northern spring equinox.

  5. Judaism - the monotheistic religion of the Jews.

  6. Synagogue - an occasion on which Jews meet in a synagogue for religious worship and instruction.

  7. Hymn - a religious song or poem of praise to God or a god.

  8. Judgement - the ability to make considered decisions or come to sensible conclusions.

  9. Ceremony - a formal religious or public occasion, especially one celebrating a particular event, achievement, or anniversary.

  10. Law - the system of rules which a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and which it may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
