NORTH AMERICA
North America is one of the six continents located on planet Earth. The continent is the third largest. North America is adjacent to many different islands. More than half a million people live on the mainland. North America connects with South America in the narrowest and most central part of the Isthmus of Panama. The waters of the Pacific, Atlantic and Arctic oceans wash the continent from the west, east and north. The relief of the continent is represented by hills, valleys, lowlands and plains. On the continent there are many mountains and active volcanoes, which is the cause of frequent earthquakes and eruptions.
North America is famous for its water systems, this includes the Mississippi River, which is part of the largest river system. The Great Lakes are the pride of South America. These include Lake Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, Ontario. Together, these lakes represent the largest freshwater reservoir on the entire planet.
The climate of North America is mostly subequatorial. In different places, temperatures range from -35 ° C to + 32 ° C centigrade.
The animal and plant world of the continent is large and diverse. In the forest tundra inhabited by deer, polar bears, polar hares, partridges, owls. In the taiga live brown bears, lynxes, porcupines, wolverines, squirrels, martens. Huge tortoises, alligators, pelicans, hummingbirds, monkeys live in tropical places. Such animals as wolves, coyotes, bison, grizzlies, rattlesnakes and lizards inhabit the steppes and desert places.
The natives of North America are Eskimos and Indians. Initially, the Eskimos settled Alaska, and the Indians a large territory of the mainland. Now many other nations live there: representatives of the Negroid route, as well as descendants of immigrants from Europe. Each people communicate in their own language, trying to preserve the dialects, traditions and culture.
