THE ROLE OF KARABAKH IN AZERBAIJAN'S RENEWABLE ENERGY SUPPLY Malik Sultanov Baku Higher Oil School Baku, Azerbaijan malik.sultanov.std@bhod.edu.az Supervisor: Siyavush Azakov Keywords: renewable energy, energy potential of Karabakh, hydropower potential,
solar potential, wind energy potential, geotermal energy potential
As a producer of crude oil and natural gas, Azerbaijan has the capacity
to provide energy at a high rate. However, the stimulation and diversification
of renewable energy are one of the main priorities of the country for the current
period. Because the territory of Azerbaijan, in general, has a high potential for
renewable energy sources. More precisely, there are 26,940 MW of renewable
energy potential in the country, which can be used economically and technically,
including 3,000 MW of wind energy, 23040 MW of solar energy, 380 MW of
bioenergy, and 520 MW of mountain river energy potential.
In the next section, let's look at the statistics on the Karabakh region,
which is considered a green energy zone and Azerbaijan is rich in renewable
energy resources. In general, there are hydropower, the solar, wind, and
geothermal energy opportunities in Karabakh.
Hydropower potential Karabakh has a high level of water resources in the country. More
precisely, 25 percent of local water resources, 2 billion 560 million cubic
meters of water per year, are formed in the territory of Karabakh. In this
regard, it should be noted that the Tartar, Bargushadchay, Hakari rivers have
high hydropower potential.
