RESULT AND DISCUSSION Gladiolus cut flower in post harvest condition observed for difference in longevity, open floret
Percent, diameter and number floret in the peduncle. Result of the these experiments are summarized in the
table 1. vase life per treatment was enhanced due to the BA treatments as control plant exhibited a mean of
only 8 day whereas the BA treated with 200 mg/l dose had 11 day. Open floret per case of untreated plant
was 65% whereas BA treatment by 200 mg/l showed 80 %. BA had a little effect elongation of the flower
shoot and BA did not affect the number flower on the peduncle. BA with 200 mg/l had maximum diameter
flower achieved by them in prescribed duration was 10.2 sm whereas diameter flower of the untreated
reduce 8.5. Results with application of cytokines which delay senescence of various flowers support the
possibility that the diminishing of internal concentrations of phytohormones may be associated with
senescence processes in cut flowers [Mayak and Halevy, 1970]. Halevy and Kofranek [1967] reported
cytokines were better inhibitors of flower abscission in roses and cytokines may be reduced water loss and
increased water uptake, there fore improving the water balance.
