the funs of those celebrities, trust them and spend pretty amount of finance to
purchase book. However, the question such as does those books cost such spending?
What methods are used in those books? Is it possible to learn a foreign language in 6
month? are a big questions for learners of foreign language. Considering those
challenges I conducted my own research and would like
to share the findings with
others.
Initially, I want to speak about the methodology used in those audio-books,
which is broadly promoted in adds as “innovative and latest”.
This audio-lingual
method was developed in the 1950 to train the military servants in the United States
which was based on behaviorism theory. It claims that human could be trained
through repetition and reinforcement. However this theory has been widely
criticized in psychology and pedagogy claiming that an object cannot be controlled
automatically by external influences (in the example of Pavlov's
experiments on
dogs). The audiolingual method is also ineffective in terms of English teaching
methods. There is no any proved example that someone has learned to speak or
write fluently in a foreign language in six month practicing only listening.
Nowadays, the communicative method in learning a foreign language is the study of
all skills and language aspects such as speaking,
listening, reading, writing,
vocabulary, grammar, phonology together. It is inadequate to say that one learn his
mother tongue by listening, and therefore, others can learn foreign language in the
same way. There is a big difference between a young
child learning his mother
tongue and an adult learning a foreign language, and this comparison is not
reasonable. There are many people who immigrate oversees however,
they listen
local language everyday but some of them cannot learn how to speak or write in that
language. Considering all above, I can say that the books mentioned above are not
reliable sources to enhance language skills. However, there are many free resources
such as Duolingo, Bee, Busuu, Memrise to learn foreign language. Zaylobidinova
(2019) claimed that technology of our days is so fast
moving and inexpensive that
one can easily find free books, application, or tool in learning foreign language.
Now, I would like to review some privileges and limitations of some mobile
application and give my suggestions for the further improvements.
Duolingo is American language learning tool
which was designed to learn
more than 103 languages. Its mobile version creates possibilities to practice target
language wherever it is possible. With a special tailored program one can easily
enhance vocabulary, grammar, listening and speaking abilities.
