With the help of the Internet and TV, more people are becoming famous. Is this a positive or negative development? The development technology - the Internet and TV in particular - has revolutionized the way people become famous these days. It is now common to see many gaining fame through online platforms, like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and television. In my opinion, this development is as much positive as it is a negative one.
There are two principal reasons why this trend can be deemed favorable. Firstly, becoming famous online and/or on TV can provide people, not least youngsters, with a source of income. Today, the job market has become more competitive than ever before, and garnering followers (or viewers) through blogging, vlogging and participating in TV shows is a means of earning a living; a good living if one is talented. Another positive impact this development engenders is influencing young minds. There are many young YouTube and Instagram streamers, vloggers and businesspeople, who shot videos actively and demonstrate their path to fame and success. By watching these, the younger generation is likely to be motivated and follow in their footsteps.
However, by looking at the trend from a different perspective, we can see that it is not without its demerits. Not all of those who climb the ladder of fame set a good example to the younger generation. For example, a Russian Instagram star notorious with the name of Litvin burned some of his luxurious cars just to multiply the number of followers he has, and he succeeded. Such behavior is neither justifiable nor acceptable on moral grounds. Aside from this, this development might send a wrong impression to people that they can make millions simply through becoming famous, and that they don't need to work hard for success. This realization can be misleading, as the sure way to fame and success is through diligence.
In conclusion, although, on the one hand, becoming famous brings much money and helps influence many young minds, on the other, it can misguide them through anti-social behavior shown by famous people and wrong conclusions followers tend to draw. Therefore, I am of the view that this is both a change for the better and for the worse in equal measure.
