Port Area Selection for a Ro-Ro Transportation in Marmara Region and an Application
Ro-Ro transportation is one of the steps of multimodal transportation (transportation chain) as known as intermodal transportation. In the logistic era of today, Ro-Ro transportation has a significant share in the proper execution of the door-to-door transportation services and especially of the rolling cargoes. The purpose of this thesis study is; providing information about the main working principles of Ro-Ro transportation, defining the properties for the terminal points for this kind of transportation system and preparing a feasibility study for a line proper to these properties in a specific region. In the theoretical part of this study, general information about Ro-Ro transportation will be given and the criteria which should be taken into consideration about Ro-Ro terminal area choice will be examined. In the practical part of the study, two terminal points for a Ro-Ro line which is thought to be established inside the Marmara Region and to serve its hinterland as effective as possible will be determined with ANP method. Since the tangible and intangible criteria effecting the optimal port area choice problem will be evaluated together with ANP method, more convenient and acceptable results will be obtained. The results of the study may be discussed because the comparisons made are subjective as a characteristic of ANP. To construct the model will provide to get the more reliable results faster, in case of evaluating the data obtained by more expert judgements from more disciplinces.
