The TEFL Institute Assessment 2 Question 3 (Module 4)
Learning Objective: Module 4: 1.4
Course material reference: Module 4 Lesson 2
Question:
Describe the typical stages of reading development.
Amplification: As you will have learnt from lesson 2 of this module, there are three stages of reading development:
Pre-reading
Whilst reading
Post-reading
In this question, you should describe what each stage is, what it involves, how it works, and possibly mention some relevant examples too. Make sure to cover each stage carefully.
Fun fact: Later on in the course (modules 8-10) you’ll learn all about how to design skills-based lesson plans (reading, writing, speaking & listening). The ‘pre, while, post’ structure demonstrated here as the stages of reading development is the same structure that you’ll use to create skills-based lesson plans. So make sure to take good notes and you’ll already be one step ahead when you get to the final modules!
The TEFL Institute Assessment 2 Question 4 (Module 4)
Learning Objective: Module 4: 1.5
Course material reference: Module 4 Lesson 3
Question:
Evaluate different types of reading activities and materials.
Amplification: Once again we have the common verb ‘evaluate’, so make sure that your answer involves opinions, strengths and weaknesses, or other ‘critical’ language. To pass this question, you need to choose one reading activity, say what it is, then write a short evaluation regarding how effective it is. Then, do exactly the same for a reading material - choose one, tell us what it is, and then evaluate it.
Note: It is very important that you evaluate at least one reading activity and one reading material - please do not evaluate two activities and no materials, or two materials and no activities.
