London is the capital o f G reat Britain. London is not only B ritain’s capital, it is 
the c o u n tr ie s largest city, the m ost im portant seaport and the financial and business 
centre. It is an ancient L inden m eans a lonely port. London is also B ritain’s cultural 
centre, the place w ith the theatres, cinem as, concert halls and m useum s. In addition it 
is the co u n try ’s TV production centre. London is situated about 40 m iles (641cm) 
from the m outh o f the river Tham es.
It is divided by the river into tw o unequal parts. M ost o f the im portant 
buildings stand on the north bank. London is the centre o f culture, industry and 
science. London has o v er 13 m illion people. T oday London is one o f the biggest 
cities in the w orld. T he m ain parts o f London are: T he W est End, T he E ast End, The 
City and W estm inster. T he old est part o f London is the City. The City is the financial 
and business centre o f the C om m onw ealth. N ow about h a lf a m illion people w ork in 
the city during the day. A m ong the sights o f the city are the B ritish M useum , the 
R oyal Shakespeare theatre, the C entral crim inal C ourt and St.pauls C athedral. There 
are m any theatres , cinem as, m useum s and parks in the w est end. T he best know n and 
largest park is H yde park. A n interesting place in H yde park is Shakispears Corner. 
T here one can listen to different speakers talk about all kinds o f ideas.
T he rich people lives in the W est End. T og eth er w ith T rafalgar Square and 
P arliam ent Square in front o f the houses o f parliam ent. H yde park is Som etim es the 
scene o f political dem onstrations and m arches. Poor people lives in the East End. It 
has m any industrial centers, plants and factories. London plays a very im portant role 
in the industry o f G reat B ritain. It is the co u n try ’s m ain centre for printing, clothing 
m anufacture and food processing.
W estm inster is the adm inistrative centre o f L ondon. T he H ouses o f parliam ent 
the seat or the British G overnm ent are situated here London is fam ous for it’s places 
o f interest.
T here are m any architectural art and historical m onum ents in palace. The 
N elson C olom n and m any others. T housands o f tourists from all parts o f the w orld 
com e to London to see it’s sight.
