1.Geographical points of the country Located in the Caucasus Mountains, Azerbaijan is a country often associated with the Middle East. Also known as the Republic of Azerbaijan, the country is situated in a way where it is sometimes considered part of Asia, and other times, it is dubbed a European country. This toss up is due to Azerbaijan’s positioning in the Southern Caucasus Region of Eurasia, which is a geographical area between Europe and Asian.The Republic of Azerbaijan is an ancient country located in the South-East of Caucasus and to the Nord-West of Iranian plateau in the zone of contact between European and Asian continents.
The geographical position of the country in terms of natural conditions, as well as the geopolitical point of view, is quite favorable. The territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan is located between 380 24' and 410 54’ north latitude and 440 46' and 500 50' east longitude. Baku is the capital city. There are 1Autonomous Republic, 66 districts, 13 urban regions, 77 cities, 257 towns, 1,719 villages, 4260 rural settlements within it. In the Republic were created 1718 municipalities.
Azerbaijan Republic is bordered with Russian Federation in the north, with Republic of Georgia in the north-west, the Republic of Armenia and Turkey in the west and Islamic Republic of Iran in the south.The coastline is washed by the waters of Caspian Sea in the east. Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, IRI are countries which border the Caspian Sea in the East.
The Azerbaijan has an area of 86600 km2. The maximum width, north to south, is 390 km, the minimum width is 175 km, the maximum length, west to east, is 470 km and the minimum length is 300 km. The total number of the country population is 9356.5 people (2013); 53.1% is the urban population. Azerbaijanis (91.6%) are dominated according to the ethnic composition of the population. Russians, Lezghins, Talysh, Avar, Tatars, Udins, Kurds, Jews and people from other nations are living in the territory of the republic. The main religion prevalent over the country is Islam.
Azerbaijan is the area of plains and mountainous relief, where the altitude varies from -28 m (Caspian Coast) to 4.466 m (Bazarduzu peak). Major relief structures in the country are Greater and Lesser Caucasus Mountains, the Talysh Mountains and the Kur-Araz lowland.
The easternmost point of Azerbaijan is on an island called Çilov. More specifically, this point is in a region of Azerbaijan by the name of the Çilov-Neft Daşlari Region. Many people remember this island as the Jiloy Island, but in 1999, the island's name was formally changed and it is now officially recognized as Çilov Island. This point sits at a longitudinal coordinate of 50°33' E. With a longitude of 44°46' E, the westernmost point of the country is located in the Sədərək municipality of Azerbaijan's Sadarak District. The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a territory in the western part of Azerbaijan and it is home to the country's westernmost point as well.

The Azerbaijani cuisine has long won recognition both in the East and in Europe. It was written in ancient written sources by famous historians and travelers. This kitchen is original and has a national character, which manifests itself in the specific cooking techniques and traditions of the Azerbaijani party. According to composition and a number of dishes, it is among the highly diverse and healthy ones, and the abundance of different kinds of meat, fish and vegetable specialties complemented by soft greens and savory spices. Traditional works of Azerbaijani cuisine are original and unique, they can not be confused with the dishes of other national cuisines.
It is no secret that the culinary arts of Azerbaijan enjoy continued popularity. Exclusive Azerbaijani dishes – dolma, bozbash, bozartma, chikhirtma, khashil, piti, pilau govurma – are included in the national menu of numerous peoples of the Caucasus. Home cooking and eating has long served as the primary ethnographic feature of Azerbaijanis in both cities and rural areas.Using old culinary recipes from generation to generation, housewives have expanded the range of dishes and improved their quality.Like other regions of Azerbaijan, its capital Baku has its own unique features of local cuisine.
