ROLE OF ENGLISH IN MY FUTURE PROFESSION

ROLE OF ENGLISH IN MY FUTURE PROFESSION
Centuries ago there were only a few jobs: people were farmers, bakers, butchers or salesmen. Today there are thousands of different kinds of jobs, and new ones are constantly appearing. And the problem of choosing the future profession has always been very important and difficult matter because it determines our future life in many ways. It is one of the most important decisions for every person.
As for me, I had decided to be a teacher, so last year I entered Irkutsk State Teacher Training University. Our University is situated in the centre of Irkutsk; it is rather small building, but very comfortable. Students say that our building is the best and it is quite easy to find different classes.

As for subjects – we have ten. They are: English practice, grammar and phonetics, Russian, Survival Science, Pedagogic science, Medicine, History, Physical Education and others. I find my subjects quite amazing because they help me to understand the way of teaching other people and to learn some more information, I have never known before.

As I’ve told before – I chose to be a teacher of English as a second language because it will be a chance to fulfill my dream of helping people to learn the foreign language. I think I possess the qualities necessary for being a good teacher. I am hard-working, kind-hearted, and broadminded. I want to devote myself to teaching different people, especially children. It will be a very challenging work for me – I will need to use all my knowledge, skills and imagination to find the right approach for every single student and make the process of studying as creative and interesting, as possible. So, I think that I have made the right choice.
It is not easy to choose this or that profession just at once. All professions are good, the main thing is to do something useful. Some of us may already know what occupation they wish to follow, what they will be by trade or profession. Others have not yet made their decision. It is not easy to decide.
Till this year I couldn't decide what I'll be after finishing school. At some time in the past I changed my mind for several times. In my childhood when I became a pupil of .the school I liked my first teacher very much and I wanted to tie a teacher.
Then I dreamt of becoming a doctor. I thought that doctors and surgeons who look after our health have the most interesting profession.
Then I got interested in physics. I had read a lot of books on this subject. Physics is very important in morden life.
I think the best way to prepare for any job is to get an education and we should do well at school, and to learn all we can outside of school.
Medieval and early modern tradition recognised only three professions: divinity, medicine and law[2] – the so-called "learned professions".[3]
Major milestones which may mark an occupation being identified as a profession include:[2]

  1. an occupation becomes a full-time occupation

  2. the establishment of a training school

  3. the establishment of a university school

  4. the establishment of a local association

  5. the establishment of a national association

  6. the introduction of codes of professional ethics

  7. the establishment of state licensing laws

Applying these milestones to the historical sequence of development in the United States shows surveying achieving professional status first (note that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln all worked as land surveyors before entering politics[citation needed]), followed by medicine, actuarial science, law, dentistry, civil engineering,logistics, architecture and accounting.[4]
With the rise of technology and occupational specialization in the 19th century, other bodies began to claim professional status: pharmacy, veterinary medicine, psychology, nursing, teaching, librarianship, optometry and social work, each of which could claim, using these milestones, to have become professions by 1900.[5]
Just as some professions rise in status and power through various stages, others may decline.[citation needed] Disciplines formalized more recently, such as architecture, now have equally long periods of study associated with them.[6]
Although professions may enjoy relatively high status and public prestige, not all professionals earn high salaries, and even within specific professions there exist significant inequalities of compensation; in law, for example, a corporate/insurance defense lawyer working on a billable-hour basis may earn several times what a prosecutor or public defender earns.
Formation[edit]
A profession arises when any trade or occupation transforms itself through "the development of formal qualifications based upon education, apprenticeship, and examinations, the emergence of regulatory bodies with powers to admit and discipline members, and some degree of monopoly rights."[7]
Regulation[edit]
