One of the first and most valuable achievements of mankind is the discovery of ceramics. Pottery is one of the types of folk crafts with a very ancient history. Craftsmen used to make clay pots by hand. Later, a simple-shaped potter's wheel appeared.
The foundation of Sumerian art was laid by decorating pottery with colors. The earliest forms of Sumerian pottery consisted of delicate geometric ornaments and stylized animal figures. The ceramics of that time were decorated with red, black, brown and purple patterns on an open background.
