Animal and human figures made of baked earth, one of the oldest material remains in human history, show that people have been able to shape and harden clay since ancient times. Extensive research suggests that with the beginning of the Neolithic period in the Middle East, the use of clay increased, during which clay was first used as a plaster in architecture and later as a building material. has been. It is known that people who obtained their food by hunting and gathering long before the production of ceramics did not produce pots from baked earth, but used pots made of stone or baskets made of stone, leather, wood or other organic materials.
The discovery of pieces of clay with traces of baskets in some monuments of the Neolithic period without ceramics shows that the first attempts to make clay pots began with the baskets being soaked in clay and dried in the sun. The fact that sedentary people needed healthy and easy-to-make containers to store agricultural and livestock products was one of the main reasons why they produced ceramics from baked soil, so different clay pots appeared in different regions.
